Five Designs, One Bath: Our Half Bathroom Designed Five Different Ways With Top Interior Design Styles of 2024

Hey design enthusiasts and bathroom daydreamers! To have a little fun, we took our single half bathroom layout and redefined it five times over with the hottest interior design trends of 2024. Obviously, each option comes with a price tag, some more palatable than others - often design is like a fancy cupcake: delicious but not always budget-friendly. But choosing the right mix of ingredients can make it perfect despite cost consciousness. We've added a cost estimate for materials for each of these design schemes and organized them from least expensive to most.

Rendering is one of my favorite, self-indulgent ways to find creative zen and design. Each rendered option is a testament to the dynamic nature of design, showcasing how a consistent space and layout can evolve into distinct personalities, each embracing a unique trend that defines the aesthetic landscape of the year and individual taste. Which is your favorite? Vote at the bottom!

The Layout

Ultimately, we settled on the toilet centered on the window with the sink tucked to the left of the door. Given other constraints of the adjacent spaces, this felt like the most comfortable layout with the most opportunities after sketching through several options.

The key to a successful design scheme is to choose your emphasis - both in terms of bold design feature as well as cost. Simply put - just pick one dang thing. Spend your money on a beautiful quartz, or a wood beam ceiling, or a one-of-a-kind droolworthy sink. But don't worry about doing it all. The key to modern design is to do more with less, which will also save you money and effort in the world of DIY. The beauty of doing-it-yourself is that you have all the control to make the execution of your details custom-tailored to exactly what you want.

Vertical Shiplap, Floating Walnut Vanity

with Vessel Sink and Wall Mounted Faucet

Cost Estimate:

$1392.44

Alright, let's just cut to the chase. This is what we built! Why? Well, we wanted to save money. This option was the ideal balance of boldness and playfulness that harmonized with the rest of the whole house palette and neutral modernity, brought in creative little details, and had just enough indulgence to check some dream features off of my bucket list (like a wall mounted faucet, floating vanity, and feature pendant fixture in lieu of a sconce) while allowing us to extend our budget to many other projects on the house.

Given the layout, the wall-to-wall span of the two-level vanity allows for substantial surface area for decor and functional storage.

Classy Board and Batten Wainscoting with Picture Ledge, Full Size Mirror, and Quintessential Pedestal Sink

Cost Estimate:

$1,731.48

This design keeps it classy. It leans into the more traditional existing details of our American Foursquare and appeals to the tastes of many. This option is safe, clean and bright, and very pleasing, all the while offering some bonus decor space in the form of a picture shelf.

3

Zellige Backsplash, Wall Mounted Sink

and Floating Oak Shelves

Cost Estimate:

$4,622.84

Zellige remains a wishlist item for me, I have always loved and always dreamed of integrating Zellige tile into a project. Bedrosians Tile has actually made a ton of more affordable dupes in the last few years (and regrettably AFTER our kitchen reno). My soapbox, however: while stunning, I believe Zellige is most practical in dry spaces (meaning reserved for backsplashes and half baths) and not successful in showers unless you have a somebody at your beck-and-call to endlessly scrub mold out of its characteristically stunning yet uneven edges...

In this design, we let the Zellige sing by balancing it against crisp porcelain, warm and textural metallic accents and clean, simple lines.

4

Accent Paint, Wall Mounted Bucket Sink

and Old World Faux Beam Ceiling

Cost Estimate:

$3,720

This option could be cheap but... once again I am dreaming of another wishlist item - the incredible concrete bucket sinks from Concretti that are offered in the richest, most beautiful tones. Go big and bold or go home! The tradeoff here is that the wall finishes and details are also kept simple to keep cost down. Instead, texture and accent is drawn up to the ceiling. A 2024 DIYer rite of passage is a faux beam. They are simple to build and instantly add value and old world appeal to a space.

While this design has all the right mix of texture and modern touch, it didn't feel right with the other characteristics of our older home and competed with our existing coffered ceilings. I'll keep it in my back pocket for a future new construction project!

5

High Contrast Quartzite, Smoky Roman Clay/Limewash Paint and Bronze Accents

Cost Estimate:

$3,705.17

If you were to ask Mugatu: Bold contrasty countertops and roman clay are sooo in right now. Out of all the options, this one is the most opulent and texturally maximalist and we freaking love it - if only we could afford it. Alas, there are indeed ways to strategize implementing beautiful materials such as these with small surface areas and square footages and we hope to incorporate some of these higher end components into our basement wine nook sometime in the future...

Roman Clay Paint:

$218.14

Quartzite Countertops & Framing Support:

$2,400

$183.45

$39.58

$90.00

$450.00

$180.00

$72.00 ea.

TOTAL:

And there you have it. All of our favorite bathroom ideas mixed, matched and dumped into one heaping post of rendered daydreams. We hope this has helped you find your own inspiration to iterate, too! Remember, the same boring layout can offer many creative opportunities. It's just about finding the one that works for your personal taste, the character of your home, your skill set and your budget.
